This striking original pastel painting, titled "Waiting at Gatehouse Station," captures the rugged beauty of Scottish rural life through a detailed portrait of three Blackface rams resting in the countryside.

The painting highlights the distinctive character of these classic highland sheep from their intricately curled, textured horns and dark face markings to their thick, layered fleece. Set against a backdrop of subtle stone walls and pine forest, the painting brings a rich, authentic sense of place and atmosphere into any space.

The first two pictures show the framed original painting. The third picture shows the painting before glazing, the colours are truer here and there are no reflections from the glass.

Frame: External 30 mm Obeche ridged, cloth whitewash/ inner 12 mm square brush whitewash. The small inner frame prevents the painting from touching the glass.

Description

• This is an original pastel painting on toothed paper, finished with a bespoke frame.

• My artwork is produced on an acid-free archival support (toothed paper) which prevents the pastels from moving. The original painting is then professionally mounted and framed under glass that does not touch the artwork. No fixatives are used as these may eventually cause discolouration. The high lightfast pastels used should never crack, darken, fade or yellow over time, thus leaving the artwork unchanged despite the passing of many years.

• The picture size quoted above is that of the actual painted area.

• The framed size is that of the outside of the picture frame.

Packaging and delivery

• Original paintings are available for collection or can be shipped throughout the UK. Small originals can be posted but larger ones will need to be shipped by courier and may take longer to arrive. Where possible there may also be an option to hand deliver originals, and this or collection are my preferred options.
