Collection: Waiting at Gatehouse Station

At the remains of Gatehouse Station in Galloway, three Scottish rams rest quietly among the grass, sedge and pines. Once a stop on the Portpatrick railway line, the station has long since fallen silent, reclaimed by the surrounding landscape.

The rams share a moment of peaceful companionship before winter brings the breeding season and their quiet truce gives way to rivalry.

The title reflects both kinds of waiting: a forgotten station waiting for trains that will never return, and three rams waiting for the season that will change them.

Gatehouse Station holds many childhood memories and remains a deeply special place to me.

At the heart of nature

I am entirely self-taught. Whenever possible I draw from my own photographs. My aim is to create expressive art works that convey the beauty and emotion of nature in all its diversity.
