The tawny owl, Britain's most common owl, is also one of its most elusive as it is perfectly hidden by day. This pastel painting shows a tawny owl at rest in a moonlit woodland, his warm, mottled feathers glowing softly against a cool winter sky. Bare branches fade into the background, giving the scene a quiet, still feeling.
