Collection: Hornel's letterbox

Hornel's letterbox

This was my first painting after venturing into the idea of wildlife with old artefacts in my new collection of still life images. The letterbox at Broughton House, a Scottish National Trust property that was once the home of the artist Edward Atkinson Hornel, is quite distinctive. I enjoyed bringing it to life and the small tortoiseshell butterflies give it a brilliant splash of colour.

At the heart of nature

I am entirely self-taught. Whenever possible I draw from my own photographs. My aim is to create expressive art works that convey the beauty and emotion of nature in all its diversity.
