Morning meadow

This original pastel painting captures a Roe Deer (Capreolus capreolus) doe half-hidden in a summer meadow, her alert gaze just visible above the swaying grasses and scattered buttercups. The Roe Deer is one of Britain's most widespread native deer, equally at home in woodland edges, farmland and open countryside. Shy and solitary by nature, they are most often glimpsed at dawn or dusk, pausing briefly before melting back into cover. The soft, luminous greens of the pastel beautifully evoke the stillness of an early summer morning.
