Collection: Red deer stag

This original pastel painting portrays a Red Deer stag (Cervus elaphus) in close-up, his broad spread of antlers rising against a warm terracotta ground. Britain's largest native land mammal, the Red Deer roams the open moorlands and ancient woodlands of Scotland, the Lake District and Exmoor. The stag's thick winter coat and impressive antlers suggest an animal in his prime. Painted in soft pastels, the warm amber tones of the background echo the russet hues of the autumn rut — one of nature's most dramatic seasonal spectacles.

At the heart of nature

I am entirely self-taught. Whenever possible I draw from my own photographs. My aim is to create expressive art works that convey the beauty and emotion of nature in all its diversity.
