Collection: On reflection

This original pastel painting depicts a Red Squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) perched on a mossy bank, its vivid russet coat and magnificent tail perfectly mirrored in the still water below. Once common throughout Britain, the Red Squirrel has suffered a dramatic decline following the introduction of the Grey Squirrel in the late 19th century, and is now largely confined to Scotland, Northumberland and a few island strongholds. The painting's warm autumn tones and the stillness of the reflection give it a quiet, contemplative quality — a moment of calm for one of Britain's most cherished and vulnerable native mammals.

At the heart of nature

I am entirely self-taught. Whenever possible I draw from my own photographs. My aim is to create expressive art works that convey the beauty and emotion of nature in all its diversity.
